Last week, on Instagram, we posted this photograph.  A cosy autumn scene with a tartan chair next to the fire.  This introduced us to Emma Iles at Seaforth Designs, we agree on of her amazing Mr Fox design cushions would be perfect on that chair.

We are delighted to have Emma as our meet the maker blogger this weekend.  We have enjoyed learning more about Emma and her work.  Including her stay at Kelmscott Manor, one of our favourite places.  Thanks Emma.

Meet The Maker:

Emma Iles at Seaforth Designs

SEAFORTH DESIGNS is the home and workshop of me, textile artist, Emma Iles. Based in the coastal fishing village of Solva in beautiful Pembrokeshire, West Wales, I use the rugged local landscape and wildlife as inspiration for many of my cushion designs, from the colours of the heather to the wading birds in the harbour. I feel very lucky to be able to earn a living through being creative and working from home. I personally design and make each cushion, so they’re very individual and unique. Handmade with mixed tweed's, velvet's and linens, the cushions all have a feather pad and are backed with a soft grey wool, woven in Wales.

Working initially as a window dresser, I trained as a seamstress with an Italian bespoke tailor in Marlborough, and have since sewn professionally for many years in a variety of stimulating environments, including curtain restoration at Kelmscott Manor, Gloucestershire for the William Morris Society. It was a thrill for me to work in the former studio of my hero, William Morris.

Since moving to Pembrokeshire in 2003 with my husband and raising three sons, I have continued to be creative – it’s as much part of me as breathing! We’re all keen bird-watchers, and inspired by the local wildlife here, I created the Coastal Collection, a unique set of cushions which forms the basis of Seaforth Designs.

I was selected to showcase my designs in the ‘newcomers’ section of the 2014 Country Living Magazine Spring Fair, and this has definitely helped me get to where I am today. I now stock over 25 shops across Britain with my cushions, and have been lucky enough to have them featured in Country Living, Period Living and Coast magazines – as well as on the BBC Autumnwatch sofa!

Always by my side ‘Orla’, the Seaforth muse!

We love all of Emma's work and so pleased to have been introduced to her via Instagram.
